According to the National Center for Education Statistics, in 2017-2018, the number of students ages 3-21 who received special education services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) was 7 million, or 14% of all students in public school. Among students receiving those special education services, 34% had specific learning disabilities.
The 2016 Census revealed an increase in the number of children with disabilities, up nearly 40,000 since 2011.
